About Me
Hi I'm Erica.
I am the founder of Southern Forest Counselling & Wellness.
My life started in the Great Southern part of Western Australia where I was born, before moving to spend my early years in the city. Later I returned to the country to raise my children. During my career I worked in many industries which included personal care, office jobs and management, to farm life and beyond.

Through my life I have gained work and lived experience with individuals diagnosed with neurodiversity. In my early 20's I was a volunteer at the Cerebral Palsy Association where I gained a passion for supporting and assisting others. The knowledge gained in that early role helps me navigate the non verbal ques of my clients and others around me. I have expanded my knowledge and experience to include working with people with diagnoses such as but not limited to, blindness, paraplegia, brain injury and intellectual delay as well as specialising in dementia care in the aged care and country hospital sector.
I have personally experienced many contrasting ups & downs including stress, grief and loss, accident and injury, difficulties in the workplace to name a few. As no doubt, we all have when travelling the roller coaster we call life.

Initially I was sceptical of the benefits of counselling as growing up I was told many adverse things about counselling. In my late 20's I decided to try counselling for myself as I had experienced some life changing events. To my benefit, I experienced the helpful and therapeutic nature of counselling which later helped me decide to embark on my own counselling career, to help others nurture their emotional health.

As a counsellor I strive to help my clients through their journey keeping a person centred approach to my work. My favourite hobby would have to be equine activities and I feel my experience in this area will help me assist anyone attending my counselling service and Equine Assisted Wellbeing sessions.

I have advanced study Majors in Abuse Counselling and Addiction Counselling.

I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association (MACA - 14576).

As a member of the ACA, I work within their ethical and practice guidelines designed to best respond to and protect clients and the sensitive information they choose to share in therapy.
Within this framework I also maintain continued professional training and personal development to best respond to client issues.

Taking care to nurture ones emotional health when needed is something we can all do by visiting our Counsellor.
